Functional Regions in Slovenia
Synopsis
Functional regions are a generalisation of the changing social, economic, environmental, and other spatial functional relationships within an area. These regions are increasingly used for economic, social, environmental, and spatial development analyses and development decisions. This monograph first introduces the general concepts of functional regions and the established approaches to their modelling and assessment. This is followed by a general overview of the analysis of functional regions in Slovenia from the mid-1970s to the present. In this part, the main results of modelling and assessment of functional regions are briefly described and presented. The monograph concludes with general conclusions and some suggestions for further monitoring of functional regions in Slovenia.
